Michel Hau

Michel Hau is professor emeritus in economic and social history and member of the research team « Arts, Civilisation et Histoire de l’Europe » (Arts, Civilisation and History of Europe). After having studied at Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Paris, he wrote under the direction of professor Maurice Lévy-Leboyer, a thesis on econonomic growth of Champagne region and a thesis on industrialisation of Alsace. He was named professor of economic and social history at Strasbourg university in 1987. Carrying out his works in the field of quantitative history, he has written, alone or in collaboration, 15 books and 100 articles on economic growth inequalities in Western Europe and the Rhineland model of entrepreneurship. In 1995 he was named at the Institut Universitaire de France. He received the Joseph Dutens prize of Académie des Sciences Morales Politiques for his book La Maison De Dietrich (1998) and, with Nicolas Stoskopf, the Corbay prize for the book Les dynasties alsaciennes (2004).
